![]() ![]() Mechanic says it is probably more than the head gasket and suspect cylinder problems. ![]() it left me with a constant questioning! )) Could the inspector do a lousy job and the owner disconnect the warning lists hoping to hide a possible engine coor replacement? (Grew up in Italy where Italians are master deceivers. I had the car inspected before I picked it up. Why would he not get a reading of any kind when hooked up to diagnostics? Know a trust worthy mechanic in Western Mass that can help? He said I could have damaged the cylanders but would not know until he opened it up when he got back. He said when hooking the car up for diagnostics nothing came up on the reading of the car? Checked with a flash light and could see no oil leaks. I lifted the hood and could see a small amount of smoke coming from the rear right side of the engine. I immediately turned around and drove back home. Next day mechanic looked at it at 6pm before going on vacation for a week and said the car was leaking compression into the cooling system. I took off and within a few minutes of driving I noticed a burning smell and a little smoke coming through the AC vents. This car emptied the entire coolant and not a single light came on. My previous TDI that I had for 5 years had a coolant reservoir leak and the STOP engine light came on when the coolant got below the MIN mark. Looked at oil and it looked fine(not milky looking). I pulled over turned off engine popped hood and noticed immediately all the coolant (pink) fluid was out of the reservoir. I decided to drive not even 1/4 mile to get to a gas station around the corner. No lights coming on nor temperature being high. I came to the toll booth and stopped at toll both and noticed very thick smoke coming out exhaust that engulfed entire area. I had driven on the interstate in cool 35-40 degrees in rainy weather about 30 miles. I did open hood, oil fine and coolant.Ĥ days after purchasing I noticed on the forth day a rough start a couple of times particularly in the morning and louder than usual. I mention this but not sure if it was related. I maneuvered it to hold until I got off the interstate and at a auto store purchased the nut that had fallen off and also the 3 plastic bolts that held the cover on that had come off. I pulled over on the interstate and discovered the plastic cover that covers almost the entire front half of the car had come off. Unrelated or not I just got on the interstate and a horrible noise coming from under the car. It was air in the coolant lines and I could have them drained and pumped out when I got home. I "googled" and came to the conclusion that I had the car inspected and no mention of heater not working. When I left NC the first thing is I noticed I just had my oil changed a couple of weeks back and there was no sign of any coolant leaking into it, etc.I need some help and maybe a referral. In my mind, it doesn't appear to be anything like a blown head gasket. Although, the problem exists even without the heater on.Īnyone have any ideas about this? I live in NYC so I don't want to just take it to a mechanic and get ripped off for something that may be a simple fix. In addition, I also noticed that my heater isn't hot now, so I'm not sure if this has something to do with the problem as well. I want to say, too, that I think it was making a hissing noise in the area as if I were boiling something on the stove. I immediately pulled over, popped the hood, and then noticed that the smoke was coming from the reservoir area. Nevertheless, the float stick was still floating and there was still some fluid left inside the reservoir. I checked the coolant reservoir and float stick was slightly below the 'low line'. Thinking everything is ok since I added coolant, I drove a few miles before noticing white smoke (steam) coming from the hood. In the last few days the 'low coolant' light has been intermittently turning on on my friends BMW X3 (2007 70K miles). I tried that again this time around adding a whole gallon of coolant, yet as soon as I drove maybe 100 yards, the light pops back on. This has happened a few months back and went away simply by adding more coolant to the reservoir. ![]() This past weekend, the STOP! CHECK COOLANT light came on so I checked the reservoir and noticed that it was empty and/or below minimum. Ugh, not another problem! Ok, so I have a 2002 1.8T VW Passat with only 95k miles and I'm not sure if I have a slow leak that's opened further or what. ![]()
